Personalized Microclimates for a Sustainable Future

A group of us at IDEO explored how adaptable interior spaces using programmable pixel walls, interactive furniture, and conductive clothing can create personalized microclimates, providing thermal delight sustainably amid changing local climates and weather conditions.

Liliana Becerra's "Soft Design" is one of those books that feels like it was written for the exact conversation our industry needs to be having right now — emotional aesthetics, sensory design, the intangible qualities that make something feel right. If you haven't picked it up yet, I can't recommend it enough.

I'm deeply humbled to have some of my material experimentations featured in its pages — explorations in AI and visual storytelling as a way to imagine and communicate a product's story more richly. To have that work seen and valued by someone whose thinking I admire so much means everything.
Thank you Liliana for writing this book, and for including me in it.

Designing Materials for Better Storytelling with Generative AI

Wrote an article with Jenna Fizel, on how generative AI can help us design and visualize innovative, sustainable materials that don't yet exist, enabling us to create ecologically responsible products like coral restoration bricks, nature-inspired fabrics, and sustainable furniture. This is a step-by-step article on how you can do it too.
